If you choose the wrong agricultural tractor tire, it will affect the working efficiency at best, and even delay the farming time and damage the machine. We farmers rely on the weather to make a living, so the machines must be carefully selected. There are three main points to consider when choosing tires: the conditions of the field, the type of tractor, and the work it usually does.
1. Look at the soil
Hard ground (clay/compacted ground): use tires with narrow tread and deep pattern, which have strong grip and prevent slipping.
Soft ground (sandy/mud): choose tires with wide tread and large pattern, such as "deep pattern tires for tractors" to disperse pressure and prevent the car from getting stuck.
For paddy fields, go directly to "paddy field tires", which have patterns like centipede feet, drain water quickly and do not damage the field.
2. Look at the model
Low-horsepower tractors (less than 40 horsepower) can be equipped with standard tires, while high-horsepower tractors (more than 100 horsepower) must use widened tires, otherwise the power will be wasted on tire slippage. It is best to choose dual tires for the rear wheels to increase the contact area and ensure stability.
3. Look at the work
Plowing/harrowing: choose reinforced tires that are puncture-resistant, and you don’t have to worry about the gravel on the ground.
Transporting heavy goods: use high-load tires with thickened sidewalls. Don’t use ordinary tires for cheap. A blowout can be very frustrating.
Tips for saving money
Don’t just look at the price when buying tires, calculate the “per-acre cost” - good tires can be used for three more years, which is cheaper than changing them every year. For second-hand tires, you must look at the production date (there are four digits on the sidewall, such as "2523" means it was produced in the 25th week of 2023). Don’t buy tires that are more than 5 years old.
Finally, a reminder: check the tire pressure frequently! High air pressure will cause poor shock absorption, and low air pressure will waste fuel and damage the agricultural tractor tire. Before working in summer, feel the tire to see if it is hot. If it is too hot, take a break. Safety first.
